All About Me Art & Storybook Session, July 31, 2026
🌸 We began with a beautiful sensory bin that encouraged curiosity, conversation, creativity, and connection as the children explored together.
🌸 Our first story was Chrysanthemum, which celebrates the importance of our names and what makes each of us special. The children created beautiful Nature Name Collages using natural materials. This activity supported name recognition, letter awareness, fine motor skills, creativity, and confidence. Each collage was as unique as the child who created it!
🌸 We read Happy Birthday to You! and decorated homemade cupcakes with icing and sprinkles. The children loved making their own designs while practicing fine motor skills, following directions, making choices, and sharing a special treat together.
🌸 After reading The Kissing Hand, we created our own kissing hands by tracing and decorating our hands with a special kiss or symbol of love in the palm. This activity encouraged pencil control, creativity, emotional expression, and the comforting reminder that love goes with us wherever we go.
🌸 We celebrated individuality with Only One You and I Like Myself! by creating Silly Hair Art. The children used feathers, yarn, pipe cleaners, pom-poms, ribbon, and other fun materials to design their own silly and creative hairstyles. This encouraged imagination, problem-solving, fine motor development, and self-expression.
🌸 We also enjoyed The Back-to-School Backpack, a sweet story about new beginnings and preparing for a new school year. We ended our afternoon with a mini version of our Birthday Categories Game.
It was a wonderful afternoon filled with stories, creativity, laughter, and opportunities for each child to celebrate what makes them wonderfully unique. I loved seeing their personalities shine through their artwork and conversations!
